Understanding Your Coverage
What Insurance Typically Covers at Urgent Care
Most insurance plans cover urgent care visits with a copay, though coverage varies by plan. Here’s what to expect when using insurance at Canyon Urgent Care:
What’s Usually Covered:
Office visits for illness and injury
X-rays and diagnostic imaging
Physical examination appropriate to your chief complaint
EKG testing
Minor procedures (stitches, splinting, wound care)
Breathing treatments
Prescriptions (separate pharmacy copay)
Telehealth visits (many plans now cover virtual care)
What May Require Additional Cost:
Pre-employment physicals (typically not covered)
Sports physicals and school physicals (not covered by most plans)
Work physicals (covered by employer, not personal insurance)
Cosmetic procedures
Elective wellness services (IV therapy, weight loss programs, TRT)
Medicare & Medi-Cal Patients: We accept both Medicare and Medi-Cal for urgent care visits, X-rays, lab work, and other medically necessary services. Your coverage works the same at urgent care as it does at your primary care doctor.
Simple, Transparent Billing
How Insurance Billing Works at Canyon Urgent Care
We handle insurance billing directly so you don’t have to deal with complicated paperwork or surprise bills weeks later. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Check-In
Bring your insurance card and photo ID when you arrive. We’ll make a copy for our records.
Step 2: Insurance Verification
Our team verifies your coverage and lets you know your expected copay before your visit. No surprises.
Step 3: Pay Your Copay
You pay your copay at checkout, just like at your regular doctor’s office. We accept cash, credit, debit, and HSA/FSA cards.
Step 4: We Bill Your Insurance
We submit claims directly to your insurance carrier. You’ll receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance company showing what was covered.
Step 5: Any Balance Due
If there’s any remaining balance after insurance, we’ll send you a bill. Most patients don’t owe anything beyond their copay.
Most urgent care visits have a copay between $25-$75, depending on your plan. We’ll tell you your exact copay when we verify your insurance.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions About Insurance
How much is my copay?
Your copay depends on your specific insurance plan. Most urgent care copays range from $25-$75. We’ll verify your coverage when you check in and let you know your exact copay before you see the provider.
Do I need a referral to use my insurance at urgent care?
Most insurance plans do NOT require a referral for urgent care visits. HMO plans sometimes require referrals, but many make exceptions for urgent care. Call your insurance or call us and we’ll help you figure it out.
Is urgent care covered the same as my primary care doctor?
Most insurance plans cover urgent care visits similarly to primary care, though your copay may be slightly higher. We’re considered “urgent care” not “emergency room,” so your copay will be much lower than an ER visit.
What if I don't have my insurance card?
If you don’t have your physical card, we can look up your coverage using your name, date of birth, and insurance company. You can also show us a photo of your card on your phone.
Do you accept out-of-network insurance?
We may be able to see you even if we’re out of network, but you’ll likely pay a higher cost. We can still submit the claim to your insurance, and they may reimburse you for a portion. Ask us about self-pay rates if you’re concerned about out-of-network costs.
Can I use my FSA or HSA card?
Yes. We accept FSA (Flexible Spending Account) and HSA (Health Savings Account) cards for payment.
What if my insurance denies the claim?
If your insurance denies a claim, we’ll work with you to understand why and help resolve it. Sometimes it’s a simple coding issue we can fix with a resubmission. You’re always responsible for charges not covered by insurance, but we’ll help you navigate the process.
Do you accept workers' compensation insurance?
Yes, we accept worker’s compensation insurance for work-related injuries. Bring your claim number and employer information when you come in.
Can I get a cost estimate before my visit?
We can give you an estimate of your copay based on your insurance, but the final cost depends on what services you need during your visit (tests, X-rays, procedures). We’ll always explain costs before providing additional services.
What if I don't have insurance?
We offer transparent self-pay pricing for patients without insurance. Office visits are $125 for returning patients or $99 for new patients. See our full pricing page for all services.

Photo ID
Any supplemental insurance cards (Medigap, Medicare Advantage)
You’ll pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount after your Part B deductible is met. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan or supplemental insurance, your copay may be lower.
