Frequently Asked Questions About Physical Exams
Do I need an appointment for a physical?
No. Walk-ins are welcome 7 days a week during business hours. You can also call ahead to let us know you’re coming, but appointments aren’t required. During peak back-to-school season (late July through August), calling ahead can help reduce wait times.
How long does a physical exam take?
Most physical exams take 20-30 minutes from check-in to completion. This includes the exam itself and completion of any required forms. If you have complex health conditions or need additional testing, it may take slightly longer.
What's the difference between a sports physical and a school physical?
A sports physical focuses specifically on cardiovascular health and musculoskeletal fitness to ensure you’re safe for athletic participation. A school physical is a general health assessment required for school enrollment. Some schools accept a comprehensive physical for both purposes. Check with your school or coach to see which type you need.
Can I get multiple types of physicals done at the same visit?
Yes. If you need both a sports physical and a school physical, or if you need physicals for multiple children, we can complete everything during one visit. Just let us know what you need when you check in.
Do you complete forms for all schools and sports organizations?
Yes. We’re familiar with the standard forms used by Santa Clarita Valley schools, CIF sports programs, youth sports organizations, and most employers. Bring any specific forms required by your school, team, or employer and we’ll complete them during your visit.
How much does a physical cost without insurance?
Sports and school physicals are $50 with no office visit charge. Work physicals are $75. Pre-operative clearance is $300 flat rate including all required testing. These are our self-pay rates and there are no hidden fees.
Does insurance cover physical exams?
It depends on the type of physical and your insurance plan. Many insurance plans cover annual wellness exams and work physicals, but sports and school physicals are often not covered. We accept most major insurance plans and can verify your benefits before your visit.
Can parents stay with their child during the physical?
Always. We encourage parents to stay with their child throughout the entire exam. Our providers will explain everything clearly and answer all your questions. For teenagers, we may ask parents to step out briefly for certain parts of the exam to respect the teen’s privacy, but this is always discussed with both the parent and the teen first.
What if my child is nervous about the physical exam?
That’s completely normal. Our providers are experienced with anxious kids and know how to explain what’s happening in age-appropriate language before doing anything. We never rush a child who needs extra time to feel comfortable. Parents are always welcome to stay and help their child feel safe.
Do you provide immunizations during physical exams?
We review immunization records during school and sports physicals and can let you know if anything is missing or due. We offer some vaccinations in-clinic including flu shots. For comprehensive childhood immunizations, we typically refer to your child’s pediatrician or the public health department.
Can I get a work physical if I don't have my employer's forms yet?
Yes. If your employer hasn’t provided specific forms, we can complete a standard pre-employment physical and provide documentation. You can also have your employer fax or email requirements to us before or during your visit.
How soon before my surgery should I get pre-op clearance?
Most surgeons require clearance within 30 days of your scheduled surgery. We recommend scheduling your clearance 1-2 weeks before surgery to allow time for lab results and to address any issues without delaying your procedure.
